Ford have revealed the next generation of the famous Ranger and, while it’s more of an evolution than a revolution, the new pickup truck definitely looks the part.
A lot of work went into the redesign, with engineers and designers teaming up with customers around the world to identify improvements and changes. Over 5,000 interviews and dozens of customer workshops took place, leading to some solid redesign choices.
New Look
A change in style has given the Ranger a stronger, bolder look. The new grille and combines with matrix LED headlights to modernise the Ranger’s image while still keeping the familiar Ford DNA.
The wheelbase is 50mm longer and 50mm wider, enough to give the pickup a more stable feel, and a redesigned engine bay makes the Ranger future-proof for any new propulsion technologies.
Inside, a new central touchscreen makes the pickup very car-like in its layout, and the Ranger is fitted with SYNC 4 connectivity.
Powertrain
New powertrain options make the Ford Ranger more capable than ever, with 3 engine options available at launch.
The most powerful is a 3.0 litre V6 turbodiesel, which Ford describe as providing “endless power and torque” and makes the Ranger feel like “a much bigger truck”.
For less demanding roles, the Ranger also has the option of single turbo and bi-turbo 2.0 litre four cylinder diesel engines.
Technology
Ford have not skimped on the new technology in the Ranger. A 12-inch touchscreen in the centre stack is loaded with SYNC 4, and the dash is fully digital. Driving modes can be changed with one button press, and there’s a dedicated screen for the off-road drive mode where the driver can monitor the driveline, steering angle, vehicle pitch and roll, and more.
A 360 degree camera is also available to help with parking or navigating tricky terrain.
Availability
Ford are expecting to make the new Ford Ranger available for order in late 2022, with delivery to commence in early 2023.
The new Ford Ranger will be available to lease from Van Ninja, so watch this space for more information.
