Ford Pro has unveiled their all-electric successor to UK’s best-selling van, the Ford E-Transit Custom.
This next electric van in Ford’s stable follows on from the larger Ford E-Transit that began production in March this year, and is the first of four new all-electric commercial vehicles that Ford Pro is planning to introduce by 2024.
With a 1 ton carry capacity, a targeted range of 236 miles, full towing capability and DC fast charging, the Ford E-Transit Custom is designed for the modern business.
A new Pro-Power Onboard feature will turn the E-Transit Custom into a power supply for tools, lights and other on-site devices. Additionally, Ford’s integrated connectivity systems will ensure you are always connected to the van and aware of its status through your phone or tablet.
There are a few changes to the exterior as well, as seen in these photos. The iconic Transit Custom look is still there, but with a few changes that improve its overall appearance.
“This is a watershed moment for commercial vehicle operators in Europe, and another hugely significant realisation of our Ford Pro ambitions,” said Hans Schep, general manager, Ford Pro, Europe. “Europe’s best-selling van just went all-electric and – supported by our unique Ford Pro one-stop-shop of productivity-boosting services – the operating benefits this will bring to business across Europe cannot be overstated.”
The E-Transit Custom is expected to begin production in late 2023, and will be built by Ford Otosan in Turkey – the same manufacturing plant building the E-Transit.
Additional spec details will be revealed over the coming months, and we are interested to find out what sort of battery options and features will be present on the E-Transit Custom, but for now, it’s looking like a good option for anyone looking for a medium electric van.
